Boat Info
1991 Sundancer 350DA
Engines
454 Mercruiser V-drive
Thinking about going to dripless like the PYI, just wondering if anyone has done this....454 V-drive....also looking for the stern tube diameter (boat in barn for winter)...
Cheers!
Gerry

Just installed PSS on my sons 1990 350 with 7.4 and v-drive. Has 1-1/4 shaft and 2-1/2 stern tube. A few years ago installed on our 1991 310. Used same dimensions as above. Good luck.

thanks very much, Sir!

How is the access on a 350 DA? I know there is not a lot of real estate on a 1996 330. Probably looking at removing exhaust manifolds to get access under the engine??

Putting a set on mine when I haul out for bottom job in March, tired of screwing with the traditional set up. Same boat 91' 350DA

Very limited but doable without removing anything.

Hey guys, sorry to ressurect this thread but do you happen to know the specs for a 1991 310 prop shaft? I see the shaft diameter is 1.25" but what length would we need to order? A friend of mine has a bent shaft and I am trying to help him order a new shaft. He has 7.4's with Hurth 630 v-drives. This is for the port motor if that matters?

We have the same boat with 7.4L and Hurth V-drive. Have replaced shafts in 2016 and last month! Access to coupler is terrible to say the least. We could not get them off so had to cut shafts with sawzall. We have closed cooling so had to remove heat exchanger from stb engine for access. Don’t know how you could install port dripless without removing stb engine. Also talk to PYI directly about issue with shafts on Sea Rays not running exactly centered on stern tubes and their recommendations for the seal kit. Our shafts are 59.75 inch. With single taper. Important to have prop less than 1.25inch behind strut. I would get old shaft out and measure before ordering. A QUALITY prop shop that regularity does this is your friend. Have had this boat for 26 yrs so know it well. Good luck!

Thank you, Final Draw, really appreciate the quick response. I don't know who PYI is, could youshare their info? I am assumming they are the dripless manufacturer? You wouldn't happen to have a model number or better yet a company that I can help him order a shaft from would you? We are on Lake Lanier in Georgia and besides the local dealership, we really don't have a lot of options. Owner is an ASE master mechanic so he prefers to work on his boat himself if possible.

PYI is the dripless manufacturer, but I realized you didn’t ask about that. I previously posted about that here. We are in Michigan. Holland Propeller handled getting my shafts manufactured. They should have your coupler to fit and face it to new shaft though. We picked up, but sure they ship. Around $1k for a shaft. Must be some one closer for you. I do all my own work also. As I said, removal of coupler may be the issue but if replacing just cut it off.

Just caught the post. I'm probably to late. I have a 2009 310DA and had my mechanic replace the dripless shaft seals last summer. He put a flat steel plate with strong nuts and bolts on the coupling and heated it with a tourch and it would not breakloose. He wound up drilling multiple holes down the length of the coupling heated the coupling and wedged a cold chisel down the drilled slot and hit it with a lump hammer. I couldnt believe the loud bang when it finally let looose. All the time it was under pressure with the steel plate. After he got the couplings off he pulled the props and then the shafts to check them for true. This man has many of years behind him working on sea rays and said that this is not very common but the couplers are always an issue. He was able to install the new shaft seals since I was doing manifolds and risers at the same time. What really sucks is that I have the boat back there as we speak to replace both oil pans.
