Dumb Autopilot question

Also agree auto pilot is a huge help and that coupled with your radar proximity alert can be great ,certainly not saying you should leave the helm for any length of time but out in the open ocean the radar when set up properly can alert if somebody’s in your watch zone which will give ample time to see what’s going on with any other vessels .... I’ve been 120 miles offshore where there’s nothing out there but NOAA buoys, But not auto pilot nor radar would ever pick up a saucer sled size turtle that surfaces right in front of you, if you run over one of those you’re gonna be in big trouble (true story) also heard about a horror story with one guy in a Sport fish hitting a whale and ripping the shafts out of the boat and actually lost the boat way offshore. You always have to be watching

Hi joeyleggz. It looks like we have the same boat. I'm looking to add AP to mine and wondering if you can tell me where the AP pump is located on your boat, as well as the other components. I've been trying to figure out the best locations. I'm adding the Raymarine Evolution AP system.

So the auto pilot pump is on the starboard side engine room ahead of the generator muffler

the fluxgate compass is in the cabin underneath the couch most forward Storage cabinet

The computer is behind the dash and my auto pilot screen is on the dash ahead of the steering wheel centered

The rudder feedback is on the rudder

I’m running the si-Tex

Here’s a story from the other side.

We were swimming off the boat in Lake Michigan about a mile out. Engines were off and we were just floating.

I saw a boat coming toward us from a far distance to our stern and just kept an eye on it. It kept coming closer and closer. It had to be on autopilot. I finally had to get my kids out of the water, fire the engines up and move.

It was an aft cabin boat with a bunch of people on it. Obviously, the captain wasn’t paying attention and had no lookout. It wasn’t until they passed where I was before that the boat changed course.
