I have a 2004 260 sundancer, 300HP w/bravo 3. At 4000 RPM I used to do 30 MPH. Had to get it bottom painted as this season it is in a slip versus a high and dry. Now at 4000 RPM I get 26-27 MPH and overall the boat feels like it is dragging something all the time (it is not). Is this typical for the effect of bottom paint on performance?

It will depend on the type of bottom paint used and the quality of the job performed. But, yes, a drop in performance is to be expected. Bottom paint is rougher than gel so more drag is created.

I have the same boat. Just had it bottom painted for the first time last month. What a difference, positive I mean. Stored wet all it's life, I know there was a lot of grud there. Tried to clean once a year with pressure washer, etc. No luck. Bottom painted, what a miracle! Increased speed at normal throttle, and gas usage down. Feels like she is riding on a glass platform, Best $$$ I ever spent.

Moose, can you post some numbers so the original poster can compare?
