You’re not really subsidizing their purchase. Rebates like this almost always go straight to the manufacturer.

Politicians and stock trading definitely needs to be addressed. At a minimum, make it completely public and real time so that we also benefit from the trades.

I appreciate that you are an EV fan but what you said is not correct. Federal or State credits reduce the taxes that you owe at the end of calendar year by a specific amount. Let's say the government cheese for an EV purchase is $15k. Let's also assume you are eligible for the full amount.

If you had a total tax bill for 2020 of $50k you will now only pay $35k because of the tax credit. That's how tax credits work. To give you that $15k means that other taxpayers had to pay more in taxes to offset the tax credit impact. So thank your neighbors since they all chipped in to give you your $15k.

The manufacturers get nothing other than a premium price for their product. As an additional note .......all the current EV manufacturers (Tesla, Ford, Chevy, Chrysler etc.) have exhausted their Federal credits which means that unless Build Back Whatever passed........no more Federal government cheese for EVs.

Maybe Biden will bring back "Cash for Clunkers" which he and Obama created. Cash for Clunkers was just another government cheese program that helped with dealer/manufacturer sales by having other taxpayers foot the bill.
 
If you follow the solar industry, you will see a 1:1 correlation with refunds and the price of installation. Those dollars always end up in the industries pockets. They aren't really saving the owners anything.
 
Edison said EVs were a big con game and they still are. Visited my dermatologist to get my head sprayed with old boaters' liquid nitrogen and she said she had hired a lawyer to force Audi to buy her EV back as it would not go up hills with heat on.
Smiling obvious door to door con man just tried to sell me solar panels on promise of reverse metering. Dismissed my objection of Lat 47 because "utility would give me money." Oh, the welfare/warfare state is back while inflation melts my savings. Next, the fountain of youth!

Edison also thought Direct Current was the way to go so...

I'm an engineer for a company that makes test equipment for automotive and aerospace applications and the hallmark of the equipment we make is it is very near silent - all electrical generated motion - no hydraulics. The last big system (over 1M) that we are in final acceptance testing for is a EV battery vibration system for a very large European manufacturer. We are getting jobs now and being asked to quote jobs that 10 years ago would have gone to companies that did hydraulics.

I've been an avid motorsports fan my entire life. I've crewed, worked corners and eventually got my ticket to race and drove for a couple years. I absolutely love the sound of internal combustion engines on song, but they are going away.
Formula One went hybrid years ago and now we have Formula E (horrible sounding) IMSA (prototypes and sports cars) is dropping the purely internal combustion DPI class and shifting to the euro LMH and LMDH (H for hybrid) spec.

For me it really is depressing to think about but the EVs are coming and we're not going to stop it.

But when I need a 'pick me up' I watch this:
