This just happened last sunday i have a 1985 34da with closed cooled block. 340 hp. while criusing around 2500rpms i slowed to idle to allow someone to walk up to the bow to ride. we had 14 people aboard so it was slow to plane anyways put this time it wouldnt at all i had my taps all the way down after 2 mins of trying to plane i slowed back down and alarms started ringing i shut down and went back to inspect the dip stick was full to the top with milky oil i havent started the motor since then. ?????headgasket / manifold??? need some help out there . thank you!!!!!!!!

Oil & Water means catastrophic failure. Head gasket failure, internal crack in block who knows, but its time to seach for a new engine.

Where do you boat? Fresh or salt? How many hours on the engines? When was the exhaust system last replaced? Did the closed system lose any coolant? So many questions, so little data.

BTW, are you nuts to allow someone to ride on the bow at, fortunately you couldn't reach, planing speeds?!

I am sorry to hear about your engine misfortune, but I couldn't agree more... I only allow people to ride on the bow when we are in the no wake zone, period. Sure it sounds fun, but I just can't risk havind someone fall off. Even if you have the preverbial "Ho pad" up front!!

The safety gods probably were making an example out of you for allowing someone to ride on the bow.

I doesn't sound good. How many hours on that engine? Was it original? Did you add the closed cooling to a prior raw water cooled engine?

This happened to me last year and I found a cracked head.

I thought reminding you of your mistakes over and over was a female thing. You've got water or coolant in your oil. You just need to figure out how it's getting there. In the mean time change the oil, pull the plugs and oil the cylinders. Maybe it's just the exhaust and it hasn't caused any real engine damage . Good luck.

wow , First id like to thank all the very opinionated people out there that have a problem with my boating safty and are so quick to voice it. First id like to say ive been boating most of my life and have run everything from 38 topgun cigarettes to 63 searay sss . and my my 34 da i still have all three. I don't see any problem with having 2 to 3 people on my sunpad . my 34 for is on a lake. I see that most of the people that had a problem with this had boats from 30ft and under. there is a big diffrence in stabilty between a 34 ft boat and 30 63 allow 3 to 4 people to ride onthe pad in the gulfstream in 2 to 3s. I have ran our 63 from Ft Lauderdale to sag harbor new york.all off shore there and back 5 days to get there and 28 kt and 10 hours of running time.btw some one layed out on front most of those days as well! aswell as about 80% of the bahama islands!

Wow! 188 words of self-defense and not one answer to even one question about his problem. Another addition to the ignore list.

Solution: Junk the 34 and use the 38 Top Gun or the 63 SSS.

All the flap aside, the least expensive solution will be a new engine. Given the age of the boat a total repower might be a good idea.

Someone must have peeled off your warning sticker by the front sun pad that says not to ride up there while underway.

This is a fun place to be.The people here are truly trying to help. But be ready to get your azz kicked a little.Nothing is free. Sounds like Manifold failure again. If I can help with a ss Manifold let me know. i can get you the info . (pics and cost)Good Luck.Oh yea I want to go for a ride in the in the 38' Topgun?

Just take off the oil filler cap. Pour something heavier then water in the crankcase.
The water will be forced to the surface and pour out the valve cover.
No comment on the people slipping :smt017 Or was that siting on the bow while underway.

Well, I guess I am one of the small boat owners. On the 58 we only allow passengers on the foredeck when we are at <10 knots in calm conditions. When we are ready to speed up everyone is off the weather deck.

interesting problem!
