My brother is looking at a '01 340 DA. The tachs show approximately 6 hours. The owner says one of the tachs failed and he replaced them both a couple of months ago. He also showed us the failed tach and the one working tach that was removed. The working tach shows 511 hours when you hook it up to 12V.
I understand the boats of that vintage are all analog gauges so it stands to reason if you replaced the tach that it would have no way of communicating with the ECM to show the correct number of hours.
Isn't there some way a SR dealer or tech can read the hours out of the engine ECMs and then program the new tachs with the correct number of hours? We are just worried it could hurt resale if in a few years he puts it up for sale and the pics show really low hours on the tachs for the boat's age.
