I have a 2000 380 DA with 454 7.4 engines. I am considering rebuilding or replacing (long block) one of the engines. Does anyone have any thoughts on this. Who supplies the best long blocks? Is there anything that I need to watch for?

Thanks
Jeff

Jeff, I sound like a stuck record, but I think Jasper engines is where its at plus they have a good warranty....good luck...

If you can find a local guy that others have used and recomend after using them. Use that guy. The shop that did my engine has done several engines for me and I've been pretty happy with there work and would use them again. The name of the co is adams metalizing and grinding. They have a web site, if you google them, they come up.

My local engine rebuilder is the only guy I trust. He knows how to build an engine, not just stuff parts into the block. The big commercial rebuilders do a lot of engines and they do them at a low cost. Don't know if that means that they cut corners to be cheaper than their competition. Swapping an engine is a pain in the butt. If I had to do it, I'd want to do it once and be done with it comfortable in knowing the rebuilt engine is a good one.

Best regards,
Frank

Jeff,

If the engine is RWC I dont think having it rebuilt makes much sense, a FWC motor me be worth rebuidling depending on why it failed. I would rather go the route of a remanufactured long block from a good rebuilder.

You also have the option of a brand new GM long block.
