Need to look at my exhaust shutters on my 08 mag 350s. Service manual for y pipe looks pretty simple but doesn’t say if you can do it with boat in the water.

Anyone done it in the water? I have an 08 sundancer 310 with b3s and mag 350s.

I tried to inspect mine recently, for similar reasons...found that I couldn’t remove the rigid pipe section between the exhaust elbow and the y-pipe due to the apparent nature of the joint at the elbow. I didn’t want to remove the riser so I stopped messing with it.

It may be possible to do, I just couldn’t figure out a way to manipulate the pieces to do it...and not sure how close to the waterline the top of the y-pipe is.

First You’ll need to loosen the rubber Coupler and slide it down the Y pipe. There are 4 very large worm clamps on each section.

Once the Lower one is out of the way, then loosen the 4 clamps for the upper coupler that attach it to the riser.

Now you can rotate the elbow and remove it for inspecting the exhaust flappers.

You’ll need to shove a screwdriver in there to break the rubber loose even after the clamps are loosened, as that rubber boot is very stubborn. A generous amount of WD-40 helps too.

I do this every spring before Launch and mine still look good (2007 350 Mag 400 hours)

Unfortunately, my y-pipes have 2 protrusions cast into each side of them that is meant to prevent the rubber coupler from slipping down them. As a result, this step isn’t doable which limits the mobility of the elbow.

I do have newer y-pipes (2016) but they are OEM...

Then reverse the procedure. Loosen the top one first and slide that onto the elbow. Then work in the lower one.

I see the protrusions. Looks like you would need to disconnect the horizontal part of the elbow first then everything would come up.

But can you do it in the water?

For the record, I was able to do it with boat in the water.

I did my mine in the water on my 21' maxum, just make sure they are above the water line.
