Where is my factory installed depth finder in hull transducer located. The boat is a 1989 340 Sundancer. I have looked in engine compartment to no avail. I installed a GPS Graph unit and I need to know the area in the boat that the hull is the thinnest for mounting the puck to get an accurate reading. There is room beside the forward bilge pump that I can get too without to much pain. Just wondering if anybody has a suggestion for proper mounting. It will be epoxy or silicone mounted as per instructions. Thanks in advance.

Sea Ray’s web site has the manuals for most boats on line and they have hull locations shown for most things. You may find it there. The factory transducer would be a drilled though the hull one so should be able to see it in the bilge. You want to pick a location that is not right behind a strake that will put bubbles running over the spot. So if you put it just forward of the factory one you might get good results. You don’t want to shoot thru a spot with a wood mounting pad.
The center line is probably not a good spot since there is a lot of glass and structure there.

If I remember correctly the transducer is a little aft of the center of the boat now. So that would put it somewhere under the cockpit area. I didnt see any wires in the 2 floor storage hatches in the salon The original works fine but with the new graph I thought it would be nice to have it working also. Im not worried about depth at speed, more for shallow water anchoring. I thought i might try different spots in the engine area comparing it to the reading on the existing depth finder before permanent attachment. The marine store where I purchased it suggested to fasten it to a long stick and try different areas of the hull where its easy to attach before permanent epoxy. Not much room in the engine compartment on these fat boats. I have to do the stick trick with the rear bilge pump just to service it. This was suggested by a Sea Ray Mechanic. lol.

The transducer is likely in the engine room bilge, not in the salon. A good trick is to put it in a plastic bag full of water and tie the top of the bag tightly to the wire and then drop it down on the bilge floor in a few spots. The problem is you won't know if a strake is in front of it that will cause disturbance and mess it up.
