Failing cylinder heads valves- WHY???

Don't worry about the pushrods, but do check them for being straight. Post back with machine shops response. How many hours on this motor?

I would think that a minor amount of water is making it into the engine of late, not enough to hydro lock, but just enough that it is corroding the valve and push rod guides. If you hadn't had this issue, my guess would be you would have hydro locked the engine at some point and ruined it completely. Maybe a golden lining in this debacle. I had an issue last season with my engine where I noticed that at idle I would get an intermittent miss. Pulled some plugs, and found moisture on the end of the 2 plugs on port side, and some residual rust in the recess by the electrode. New mani's and risers followed.

Problem was bad head on other side as well. I removed it 2 weeks ago and brought it to machine shop and he said definately some minor water intrusion thru water jackets in head.
he told me this one looked more worn than the first one. got rebuilt head, old one not worth doing anything with, and put it back together. Went out for the day and all seems good. F'd up 5-6 weeks of summer but as always could have been worse.
The prize goes to Scoflaw who in earlier post change both heads. Who has ever heard of one going 1 hour after the other???
live and learn......
thanks to all for your help, just wanted to close thread with solution for next guy.

I had it happen to me. Maybe 2 hours of running but it was really close to the first one going out.

Here's the answer to the valves hitting the pistons. This happened to me some years ago. My manifold was bad on one side. Water steamed up in the engine ok?
The valve rusted in the head, then bent the pushrod. Head off total valve job one side new valves bronze guides and manifolds. I did both sides on the manifolds. Problem solved. $1800.00 later only because I did the work myself. It's a boat ! RIGHT!!
