I have an old 1985 Sea Ray Seville Cuddy that I have done a lot of work on this year. Pretty much have completed bringing her back to her glory however I have noticed for the past several seasons that my Faria tach ( original) jumps randomly all over the place then at times settles but you never know for sure if its correct or not. I know dash tachs are not really that accurate for relying on them for technical work like idling adjustment etc. and I have a external tach I use for that but the one built into the dash are still useful to some degree while out on the water. So my question is: why is this thing jumping around....should I be looking for something specific to correct it or is it just old and needs to be replaced or what? Thanks for any input

Don

The Tach is going or is bad. Faria offers a rebuild service if you are partial to that tach. But besides checking the wiring for a loose connection it needs to be replaced/repaired.

I read somewhere turning the selector 4/6/8cyl back and forth a few times sometimes helps. I haven't tried this yet though.
