I had my first failure this weekend. This past winter I rebuilt the water pump-fuel pump drive (new shaft, seals, and bearings). I was checking the oil Sunday getting ready to go to the river and found oil in the engine bay. Checked and found the front seal blown out of the drive behind the pulley. When I rebuilt this thing I was wondering where the lube cavity vented. I didn't see any vent. Unless it vents thru the fuel pump tube going to the carb. Most any time something has oil it has to have a vent. I did put the seal in with silicone. I noticed in the book it calls for locktight. Maybe thats the problem. Looks like pressure built up and pushed the seal out. I'm going to install another seal with locktight this time. Anything else I should look for. Thanks for any help.
