Fishing Report Saginaw Bay - "Walleyes for Warriors" 6-19-11

[Getaway]

Walleye fishing in general has been good in 21-24 fow on spoons back 25-35 feet and on riggers 2ft off the bottom trolling 2.5-3.0 mph GPS ground speed.

The catching was a little off with the north east winds on Sunday, but we still had a blast. Ended the day 5 for 8 on walleyes, a burbot and a sheepie.

We took the veterans fishing for the "Walleyes for Warriors" fishing even held at Veterans Memorial Park in Bay City. I fished with an 85yr old WWII Army vet who is one tough guy. His daughter fished with us too and she was in the Air Force in Iraq. I just wish the waves were a little smaller for the event. It really kicked up around noon or so.

Our fish came high (25-30 back) on spoons. Greens and oranges were the best behind small dipseys. I'm liking the spoon program!

What a great thing to do for the ol Vets! You're going a long ways toward building good Karma, and it never hurts to have an oversupply of good Karma. Kudos to you and all who participated, and thanks for the slideshow.

There were 87 boats that participated for the inaugural event and we took around 165 vets out. I'll bet we get twice that come next year.

I was choked up for 2 days and still get a little weepy-eyed just thinking about it. It's hard to describe the emotions....

The 85yr old WWII Veteran that fished on my boat was like having my grandpa fishing with us again.....

Great job getaway,the hailor from sunsetshores had a blurb about that and i thought about participating but just didnt have the time this year and i really didnt know what it was about .Next year i will be ready though but i will have to find a deck hand to help out .Thank your photographer too .Glen
