Boat Info
2000 410 Sundancer
Engines
8.1L Mercruiser Horizon
Can owners please chime in on this??

My set up:
2006 Merc 8.1s twin engines. (Boat is a 2000 410 sundancer)
2 batteries for port and 2 for starboard and 1 for gen.
I also have 2 massive 6 volt Trojan batteries for the inverter.

can anyone please tell me what batteries are 12v house? Is it port or starboard?

which bank is running the 12v system on the boat?

I’m trying to chase down an electrical
gremlin and he keeps getting ahead of me. Ha

I'm not sure you'll get the answer your looking for as your battery setup is far from what the boat came with stock.

Do you not have the two Perko battery switches in a cabinet to starboard? You should be able to isolate the house bank with one of your switches without going through too much pain. If you don't have Perko switches you must have solenoids for port/starboard with switches on your main AC/DC panel in your cabin?

The schematics are in the Owners Manual Suppliment. They should be on the Sea Ray website...

Typically it is the Starboard battery system.

Specifically what is the gremlin?

To add to the confusion, it seems these boats were not necessarily wired the same. My 2002 has the same battery count - 2+2+1. My starboard bank is starboard engine and cabin house. The port bank is port engine and all DC loads up top except the fridge. Genset is stand-alone for starting.

I don’t have physical battery selectors, they’re solenoids controlled from either the cabin DC panel or in the engine room on the forward bulkhead.

the leads that go to the batteries are also labeled from the factory so that might help track your issue, depending what it is.

Thank you for the reply.
Can I ask you, what type of batteries do you have for port and Sb? are they deep cycle or starting? You and I have the same battery configuration. 2+2+1

I did group 27 starting (1000cca each) for the port side and group 27 deep cycle for the starboard, 800cca each. I have caterpillar 3126’s so they might be a bit hungrier to start than your 8.1’s but they do just fine so far. I’ve always purchased Walmart special batteries, they’re like $80 each. I have a nice pronautic 1240p that keeps the batteries alive for 4-5 years. I don’t even remove them for storage, just disconnect for the winter.

the gen is also a 27 starting, 1000 cca. We have a 7kw diesel Westerbeke

Are you running AGM's? 800/1000CCA for a group 27 deep cycle seems high? And that price makes me want to start shopping at Wal-mart...almost :)

I'm running group 31 flooded cells (Duracell/Deka) for my dainty 7.4's, dual purpose, and they are a measly 700CCA.

Nope, they flooded. I misrepresented though - the DC ones are marine so they are 800MCA, the cranking are auto so they’re 800CCA

normalizing the two to MCA I’m really closer to 800x2 MCA and 1000 x 2 MCA.

We don’t boat under 40* so MCA is fair lol. Either way, they work and they’re cheap
