Regarding the plumbing fittings on the hot water heater: In reconnecting all the lines to the hot water heater (I had connected the hots and colds together via a union for winterization) I can't get the damned things to not drip. These are the type that are intended to be hand tightened. I don't want to crank them down too hard. Plus, the drip appears to be coming from where the fitting is pressed on to the hose, rather than from the threaded joint. It is just a slow drip, but it is very frustrating. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure what type of fittings you have??? But if it's the type with an o-ring in it, the o-ring may have a nick in it. You have to replace the o-ring.

O-rings get nicked very easily when taking the fittings apart the putting them back together.

Agree “O” ring is likely cause, especially in the cold weather when they can not compress as well. Perhaps change the rings or get it really warm with a heat gun before installing. Remember this is the same problem the space shuttle had, years ago.

Yes, it appears to be the O-rings. Of course, they are not standard O-rings... they are special proprietary Sea Ray beveled O-rings. Luckily, they're in stock at Clark's and will be Fed Ex'd to the marina for Saturday AM delivery. Mommy needs her shower!:smt101:smt101:smt101

Even after you replace the o-rings, make certain there is not a lot of side load on the tubing connection(s). Normally you will find a metal strain relief if there is a potential side load concern. Oh, don't forget your o-ring pick for Saturday!

Tell your dealer to start stocking the 0-rings because he will be needing them for other customers. I hate the new set up with these crappy o-rings and screw on adapters. You may recall this thread I started on that subject. http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6463&highlight=barb

If I were you I would just buy a couple of brass barb adapters at Home Depot for the hot water tank, cut off the hose ends, and put the hoses on with SS clamps. That's what I did with mine.

And save the o-rings when they come in..........you will needing them for other leaks. :smt043

Dave-
You were right. I used your approach for the hot water heater connection and the leaky transom shower, only to discover that EVERY connection on the manifold under the sole in the galley is leaking. I had not touched any of those connections in winterizing. I made that one a dealer problem (although I'm 10 days past the warranty expiration). The tech asked what type of anti-freeze I used (West Marine). Plus, he only had two cone-rings so he's going to have to come back.

I was looking at our HW tank and those fittings sure look suspect.

I was moving the hot water line the other day in planning the positioning of my sub woofer, and the darn thing started to leak. So, I got into my plumbing kit and dug out two brass fittings from Home Depot, cut off the old ones, wrapped everything in lots of teflon tape, and re-assembled the line out of the way of my speaker using clamps as mentioned above - no leaks.

While you are down there - why don't you just rip out the heater that they put in there and put in a bigger one...heck, I think mine from my 360 did a better job than the 30 second shower my 420 heater gives me of hot water before it runs out!!!

That hasn't been a problem. They are usually 6 gallon heaters. 6 gallons should be plenty unless it's not very hot or unless it's full of mineral deposits (not too likely). Can you turn it up? Or, before you try, how hot is the pure, hot water?

I had the same problem on my 240 when I was changing the HW tank. Since it has everything connected via plastic pipes I had to get new fittings (i didn't bother with o-rings). I was able to get them from a guy who has mobile-marine service. Ones new fittings were installed, the leaks were gone.

Alex.

I have mine turned all the way up. It has been a problem since new...Rob who also has a 42/44 (on this board) has had the same complaint...maybe the Sedan Bridge's is bigger? BUt, if I take a normal shower - it's out of hot water - and takes a while to replenish. It was like this from the beginning - and new!
