Hello All

I have a 2002 225weekender with a 5.0 EFI with a stock prop. I am very interested in changing over to a 4 blade prop for all thebenefits that comes with the 4 blade. My question is has anyone made thisswitch and how was did it effect your fuel usage? I have heard that you burn more fuel with a 4 blade, any input would be greatly appreciatedthanks

J

Since four blades reduce top end speed, I suspect you will burn more fuel/hr with a four blade if you tend to travel longer distances at higher speeds and your total travel time is important.

You may use less you fuel/hr if your only concern is traveling on plane and overall speed/time is not important, but it will take a little more time (hrs) to complete the trip.

My best burn with the 3 blade prop was 2.0 - 2.1 MPG at 3800 RPM. With the 4-blade it is 2.1 - 2.2 at 3500 RPM so the change in fuel burn isn't significant. The hole shot is amazing, I can plane the boat at much lower RPM's, and the reduction in vibration is significant.
