I have a mercruiser 2000 5.0 carborator engine. Other than the fuel/water separator filter is there another fuel filter I should be changing?

There should be a small paper or mesh filter in the inlet of the carburetor. You need to remove the fuel inlet line and then the large inlet fitting to access. To remove the fuel line it helps to use a "flare nut" wrench on the line and hold the large inlet fitting with a 1" open end wrench. I believe the size of the flare nut wrench is 5/8".

Doubt your engine has a carb, it might look like one but more than not it's an efi throttlebody with 2 nozzles for fuel delivery. No second filter

This is the color of the fuel emptied from the water/fuel filter. Should this be the color? There are some particle settled at the bottom

It’s pretty yellow. Is this a new-to-you boat? Do you know how old the gas is? You may find yourself changing fuel filters a couple of times while you run out that tank of fuel. Be wary of any detonation going on, as octane modifiers in fuel are one of the first things to go bad.

I ran the tank down to a quarter or less. It stop starting. I added 15 gallons, changed the water/fuel filter and the carburetor fuel filter. The engine ran at idle for about 15 mins. Then it wouldn't restart. FYI I filled the water fuel separator before installing. Could the engine have been running on that small amount while it was idling? Should I drain the tank?
