Anyone have their fuel injectors pulled and sent out for cleaning / servicing? About how much does this cost?

My mechanic is thinking I may need this done to restore some lost speed and power. I'd like to know the going rate for the service before I give the go ahead. I understand their would be labor for the removal, and then the cost from the outside injector servicing agent. I don't really know how involved this service is, and where the injectors are located in the engine (easy to access or not).

It takes about an hour to get to them and pull them. Not hard, but you need to have good mechanical skills as you need to pull the fuel rail, etc.

The cleaning service is about $25 per injector.

Thanks, that's not nearly as bad as I was thinking it might be. I had visions of $100 per injector plus labor.

The mechanic is pretty good. He was able to pull and reinstall my motor last hear to replace the engine coupler, so I'm pretty confident he can get to the injectors with relative ease.

Just had mine done due to the cool fuel 3 paint de-lam issue. As far as I can decipher from my bill (I had a lot of other crap done unfortunately), it cost about $700 to pull them, send them out for the reconditioning, and to reinstall them.

Our service manager went down this road last time we were having some problems. Earlier this year met boater with the same boat/engines and he said to try the Quicksilver fuel treatment (https://www.quicksilver-products.com/en/products/marine/outboard/fuel-systems/additives/). I spoke to one of the mechanics at a local Sea Ray dealer and he highly recommended it (I only used the #2) as a way of cleaning the fuel system and engine carbon.

We are about 15% through a new tank of fuel and I definitely notice a difference at both displacement and cruising speeds – engine is smoother, the slight pulsating I was getting is gone and performance seems better.

Might be a cheap alternative to try before pulling the injectors (unless you know one is bad).

That's exactly why the mechanic wants to pull mine. I was thinking it would be in that ball park, price wise, unfortunately.

If you can turn a wrench ,you can remove your injectors
send them out for repair for about $17.00 each W/ new O rings
pm me for the info

I believe he was quoting the price for 16 injectors (two engines). I would expect about half of that to be reasonable for a single engine boat. I have seen prices range from about $15 - $30 per injector for the cleaning. I can't imagine more than $200 in labor to remove and install. If it is, you probably need a new mechanic.

Yes, I did all 16. Don't have the bill in hand at the moment, but I believe that I was charged 30-some an injector. Labor was tougher to figure out since I had a bunch of other stuff done.

How many hours on your 6BTA? Has it seen bad fuel or water in the fuel?

Injectors on a diesel should last a long, long time.
