I've been watching the price of gas vs diesel on the street throughout the winter.

Today.....for the first time in I don't remember how long....maybe a year and half or so.....Diesel is the same price as gas....well, almost.

On the street, Regular gas is 1.69, Midgrade gas is 1.86, Premium gas is 2.00. and Diesel is 2.00. So the Premium gas and Diesel fuel are the same price.....on the street anyway.

Typically around here, fuel at the Marina is .50 -.75 more than on the street. Typically, I can get diesel delivered to my dock for .20-.25 less then the street price.

So, Diesel, for my boat, is less expensive than gas....how's that for new math...

The price of street diesel has been steadily going down over the last few weeks....the last drop was today. On the way to work, diesel was 2.02 and premium was 2.00. On the way home, they were both 2.00.....now I'm sure as I'm typing this, the guy is up on the ladder raising the price.

I wondered how the rest of the country was doing. Our diesel is down to $1.79 and regular is $1.69. There has been a slight uptick the last couple of weeks on regular.

Diesel is down so much not only due to weakening vehicle demand but also/mainly due to weakening demand in China. China has the largest number of diesel fired power plants in the world. That is why diesel spiked so much more than gasoline. Chinese power plants were gobbling the stuff up.

Funny thing is, my dad bought a nice big diesel rig before the last gas price explosion and one of the reasons (among the durability reasons) was that diesel was typically cheaper than gasoline... Go figure.

That's funny. In 1982 my dad bought a diesel Olds Cutlass for the same reason. Had the car for about a month when the prices flipped and diesel became more expensive. Plus the car was a POS.

That's a nice price....

I was just in Florida two weeks ago.....diesel on the road along route 95 was more!!!

In Key Largo, the cheapest GAS was ~$2.00/gallon.

Street Price gas is around $1.75 in North GA.

I am under the impression that "gas" and "diesel" are generally locally produced by refineries from crude oil that is bought. . from who knows where. Fall off in demand from China should -theoretically- drive down crude oil prices.

In the last little bit, crude oil prices have been rising. Was less than $35. Now over $45.

I've been watching too. I felt that late last week was the "right time" (only a guess). Of course, when we get over to he Islands, we have to fuel up and pay their prices :wow:.

Of the total imported petroleum products a suprising amount are finished products..in 2007 approx 25%. Of that about 1/2 were fuels(diesel, heating, keorsene, aviation, gas)

I paid $2.10 today for diesel delivered to my house- Since I did not take more than 200 gallons, I did not get the price break- over 200 (but less than 300) would have been $2.00.

Still feels better than the $5.59 I paid in Marco Island, FL last summer while on my way to Key West.

I wonder what percentage of those finished products came from Canadian refineries just over the US border. . . .

..

I don't know why, and I ain't complaining, but as of this morning, all the gas prices are the same as last week....the diesel, however, has come down to 1.92....approaching the same price as the midgrade gas..

Yes...my diesel car is loving the price drops....and still get 35mpg. North NJ was 1.99 last week plus 5% discount w Hess Card. With fuel dropping for this boating season, it sounds like this summer trip is to Block and MV. Working on the wife now.
Spring is here but still skiing!!

Creeping UP. Oil seems to be following the stock market. I paid $1.69 for gas (87 oct cash) on Rt. 35 in Sayreville yesterday.

Fueled Car and Boat last week.

Gas at pump. Regular 1.99
Diesel (200 gal or more) delivered to boat cash price $1.68 charge +.10

Diesel here in CT, street price is still $2.39 to $2.69. Regular 87 street price is $2.09.
