Home delivery of off-road (no tax) diesel, what a great idea! ask them what they would charge me for travel time to get me 400 gals. every other week. So they just pull up in your driveway and bring the hoses out and fill you up as if they are pumping fuel oil into your furnace huh? I gotta get me a house on a canal! Is all this legit?? How do they get around the enviromental spill issues??
At our marina, no "Jerry-Cans" allowed-even jet skis. I remember when I use to carry down gas (for smaller boats I had) in several 6 gal. cans. Can't get away with that any more.

Pete"

I don't have the answers to all those questions....yet! There are folks in my neighborhood who have diesel delivered. It is just like you said...the truck pulls into the driveway, drags the hose behind the house and pumps away. I don't even have to be home.

Before I go ahead and start this fuel delivery service, I will have do a little more leg work.

One thing I know that will help, is that the previous owner put in a pair of air/fuel seperators on the overboard fuel vents. I shouldn't have to worry about fuel shooting out of the sides anymore....

Dominic,
Do you have a picture of the air/fuel separators? Sounds like something that should be on ImpulseIII. Thanks.

I have been getting my diesel delivered for 2 years now. I see the trucks driving up and down the street all the time. If you look in the yellowpages (at least here in south florida), you'll see several companies that do it.

Come to the Great Lakes...I haven't seen pricing yet - but I can bet we will beat you all - for sure.

Some ports around here will have tax free diesel. I filled up 2 weeks ago - and luckily it was from last year - so only 2.25 / gallon. But, that will be up to probably about 2.50 / 2.75 soon.

At our marina, which has the taxed gas - plus their low markups (ha ha) it will be low 3's for Diesel (was last year) and high 3's for gas. I know Chicago last year was in the 4's for regular gas...and a lot of boats sitting as well :)

Frank:

The previous owner was kind enough to send me a few high resolution pictures during the install. I'll email them over to you. If anyone else wants to see, I'll try and resize. If you have any specific questions about the install, I'm sure that Sea Gull would be glad to help. I think he's out of town on a little R&R right now though....

Excellent !!! That's teh next thing going into my 340!!! No more fuel shooting out of the vents down the hull before the valvve shuts off.

Our marina was 3.32 last Saturday before the office opened. At noon when I went over for fuel it was 3.48. :smt021

Is anybody in this industry that can explain why the oil companys are recording record profits while the consumer is getting screwed? :smt017 (other than they can)

$3.00 at the dock for 87 octane ... I GOTTA go and fill up before it hikes

I was told by my diesel supplier to look for Light Sweet Crude prices in order to anticipate where the price would be going. I looked them up on the web and they are going down!

Also, I heard from someone who lives in Nassau Bahamas that the cost of diesel there is $3.30. can you believe it is cheaper there than here?

took on 145 gallons at our place yesterday. gulf, 87 octane, $2.89/gallon. i had laid the boat up with about 50 gallons in each tank (i opted to go the "near empty" route). gas on land here in NJ jumped about 25 cents in the past 3 weeks. this shipment came in before that outrageous criminal hike, and b/c the spring weather has been SO BAD & most boats are still on the hard & and many others stored FULL, they havent sold much of the delivery. i still dumped the requisite amount of startron in just for good measure.

in keeping with tradition, the marina gas went up another 20 cents a gallon this weekend. So far every weekend it's gone up 20 cents for a month straight.

Filled up at Columbia Island which is operated by the US Park Service for $3.10 per gallon ($510 worth). Their prices change with the next shipment they receive (next week) which is forecasted to be $3.47 per gallon.

The State of Virginia refunds $.17 per gallon if you fill out the forms and send in the receipts.

discover is starting a sign-up on june 1 for the 5% cashback program on gas purchases. they only offer this extra bonus from july-sept 07 - just in time for summer travel and big marine fuel loads! sign up and get a TINY bit of satisfaction. the link posted by dave above states that the 5% reverts back to the normal 1% after $1200 in gas expenditures. if i max that out (which i will), i'll start using my wife's discover. only $120 back in my pocket, but it's better in MINE than THEIRS! :smt038

Went to lake this last weekend. Filled the boat up about a month ago and have hardly used it. Here in Indiana at the slip marina gas $3.79 for 89 oct. At the DNR pump it was $3.40 so I put in 7 gals. just to top off before it gets to $4.50 or $5.00 I am guessing.

Last year I kept the trailer at the marina and pulled out the boat and took her to the local gas stations. Saved $50 each time but it did take 1 1/2 hours of my time.
