So I must be a glutton for punishment because I'm at it again. Trying to get a non Garmin camera to work with my Garmin's. I currently have analog camera's in the bilge which i up convert to digital via an axis converter that Garmin supports and it works great. The image is no great however. But that is expected.

Garmin says they support the axis p3905-r ip camera however I can't seem to get beyond a black screen. I called Garmin and they confirmed that it should work. Wondering if any one has any tricks to getting non specific cameras to work with their Garmin mfd's. I know with some of these cameras you have to play with the onvif settings etc but Garmin says it should work out the box and I've also found a video (6 years old) that shows it working. So I'm just giving myself a project to over the winter to see if I can get them working. Any guru's out there with some insight?

So a dumb question, the camera is connected to the GMN right? If so, then the camera may need to be put into the correct mode. It should have a web page that allows you change that, most do.
I can get into the cameras via a browser but I don’t know what the Garmin requires. Camera has a ton of settings.Onvif setting doesn’t have authentication required so don’t know where to start.

You have an 8600?

Does the camera show up in the options video source and then you select it and get a black picture?

Yes

Can't be done other than through the HDMI port on the MFD. I've had IT and Camera Security companies on the boat to get the Lorex security system to be viewed and be compatible with the Garmin MFD's. We tried every IP protocol including changing the camera to the Garmin static IP structure, stand-alone routers, etc - the best that did was to lock up the MFD's.
There are a bunch of thread posts on what we went through. Garmin is very particular on what it allows to communicate with the systems; probably a liability issue with navigation equipment. There are a bunch of posts on what I went through.

Tom, Garmin does support Axis camera's, as does Maretron. Like @Irie308 I have an Axis analog to IP multiplexer (7014). It works just fine with the Garmin MFD. I have four ER camera's that can be displayed and any of my three displays. Take note that not all Axis camera's are supported. But to your point, Garmin is very selective as to what they do support.

@Irie308 I would try lowering the resolution to something like 1280 x 720, 720 x 480, 640 x 480 or possibly 640 x 320/360. I found this little statement on their website: "All current Garmin chartplotters can support up to 1280 x 720 pixels" That's not to say 1920x1080 isn't supported though.

Agree with all stated above but the fact that Garmin list this camera in their documentation as being supported I want to follow through to see why its not working. They have opened a case and are willing to review logs etc to see why its not working. Did some reading last night and I saw that Garmin supports h.264. My camera's live stream is outputting jpeg. Going to switch this to h.264 and see if it works. As @SKybolt stated the Axis m7014 does work as Garmin stated. and the Garmin sees the p3095-r. That's half the battle as the other non supported cameras don't even show up. I think I just need to tweak the resolution our video output of the camera to get a display.
I've already serviced my aftercoolers so not much else to do this winter. Why not go down the rabbit hole on this one....:)

Great idea. thinking along the same lines.

I would also try h.264 as you mentioned with the 1280x720 resolution. That may be what you need to see the video.

Ah - I assumed in error that he was trying to integrate a non-Garmin recognized IP camera which I have a school of hard knocks to wit.

Yeah, I have read through your trials and tribulation over your Lorex system. It's a shame that couldn't be integrated.

Plus Lorex is a Flir product. Not everything with a name will work....
