I lost the thing that goes down the fill pipe and attaches to a chain.1986 Weekender 300. Any suggestions? Afraid to drop the cap in the drink! Thanks

The best thing to do is to personally take the cap off and put it in a safe place inside the boat when fueling. Then exercise extra caution when replacing the cap. If the gas dock attendant handle it, you will lose it.

Those little chains can easily get snapped by the fuel nozzle. No chains on either of mine. I do like @sbw1 and personally take mine off and set them in the cockpit. Once done, I replace them. I do have a spare just in case I deep six one.

Anyone know where to get new stainless steel cap. I lost mine and went to West Marine and got a 1.25" one that looked like it would work. The top was correct but the threads were different

The challenge on the Weekender I have is that the fill/cap is on a vertical surface, not flat. One slip and the cap is gone! My other fill still has the chain attached to that coat hanger/spring device that goes down the fill and catches on a lip. That's the part I am looking for.

Thanks

Mine are in an area of no saving it if it slips. No issues for me.

You're right. Seasoned dock attendant helped me out and the cap sunk rite to the bottom! Went to Home Depots plumbing section and bought a "PVC male threaded end cap" for a $1.00 six years ago.

That vintage of Sea Ray (I've had 3) is a difficult match for fuel cap threads. I went through a half dozen at my local marine supply and found a match. All the caps were the same brand/part but there was a thread difference. I could see the difference by the thickness of the unthreaded portion at the top of the cap.
