Because I trust the opinions of my boating bretheren more than the random reviews online I thought I'd solicit some suggestions for a new propane grill.

I research stuff to death but wanted a good headstart from anyone who purchased one recently. Thinking $300-$500 range.

I like to cook nice thick steaks from Sam's club so need something that gets hot and cooks even.

Thoughts?

Oh yeah . . . is it a no brainer to go with an infrared model assuming price is right?

IMO hotter is not always better. I was sold on the BTU scam and now I have a nice Char-Broil grill that I hate. Dang thing cranks out 5 billion BTU's but the problem is that the outside cooks way too fast. I have to cook everything on low and even then I get a charred crust with an uncooked center.

I have a $50 cheapo grill that I store in the garage for winter grilling and that has become our default grill now.

Char-Broil Commercial Series 580 Infra Red Grill

Or go with the Quantum Series if your budget allows.

Weber grills are my choice. They cook great, last a very long time and have great customer support. I guess you could say the are the Sea Ray of grills. I have had Weber grills now for 15+ years and cook on them at least 3-4 times a week year round.

If you are going to spend that kind of money, do it right. Not propane, but heats up as fast and the heat is incredibly even throughout.

I don't have one. It's out of my league. Those I know who do, will own nothing else.

The reviews on that Char Broil are terrible on Amazon. I have a weber and a vermont castings. I love the weber but I feel that the quality has slipped and the prices have gotten too high. They dont make the vermont castings anymore, but I love it.

At $1,400 for the cheapest one . . . I think not. I could eat at Ruth's Chris or Jeff Ruby's all year long and not spend that kind of money.

Kinda throwing my hands up. Hate the idea that a $400-$500 grill is going to look like crap in 2 years.

I also have had a Weber in the past. I replaced it with a "Tuscany" POS from Costco. I took that back and got a full refund from Costco and now have a Charbroil "Commercial" series stainless grill. I will go back to Weber when this POS is done.

There always is the 520DB version of Grills that I can't justify the cost of but can certainly see myself standing in front of this Viking outdoor grill.

I will add to the Weber club. I have had mine for 8 years now and when washed it still looks good. I have had no issues with it and grill at least once a week all year long and usually 2 to 3 times a week durin the summer. It is only a three burner without any bells and whistles, but grills evenly evenly every time. If I remember right it was $400 to $500 when I bought it.

Weber. We bought a propane one 16 years ago and still have it. It's in the garage. I did have to replace the "flavorizer bars." But they are cheap and designed to be disposable. We replaced the grill because we wanted one to take to the marina to use instead of the messy, messy Magma. After not being able to find a decent inexpensive propane grill, I bought a natural gas Weber for home and took the propane one to the shore. Both perform perfectly. I love never having to fool around with propane tanks with the natural gas fired model. The "new" one is ten years old and in perfect condition, much as it's 16 year old sibling.

I know you asked about gas grills but once you've tried one of these you'll never think gas again....

We have had four grills over 15 years. The Weber Genisis so far is the best by far. We left it out all winter in the snow (we get 250cm of snow on average per year) and in the spring it started on the first click. I have never had a grill do that. Its stainless steel. I use boat cleaner on it and it shines like the day I got it. Amazing really. I am sure there are other great Grills but this Weber is our best one so far.

Cincy, I can honestly say that, by far, Weber Grills are THE BEST FRIGGIN GRILLS on the planet:thumbsup:.

I had a Weber Genesis grill before Huricane Katrina. It sat under water for a week after Katrina. I donated that grill to my very best friend's engine house (he's a fireman) and bought another one simply because,

1, I knew there were replacement parts for it, Firemen grill anywhere from 2-6 times per week (down here at least), My friend and I had the same exact grill but his didn't get as submerged as mine did and he still has and uses the same grill till this day,

2, I had to replace the entire "cook box" on my new one purchased after Katrina due to a grease fire that warped the cook box, that was covered completely under warranty, including a tech to come out and replace it for me, and,

3, The firemen in his engine house are still using this Katrina grill that I purchased in 2002 still to this day and I have to say, I have eaten some of the best grilled steaks on these grills that can not be duplicated ANYWHERE IN THE COUNTRY.

No disrespect to Miss Ruth Fertel, but I believe I DO HAVE THE ABSOLUTE VERY BEST recipe for a grilled rib eye. Just as long as it's a premium cut of meat. I usually buy the "Sam's Club" rib eye's because they are so freshly cut and a decent cut of meat. Anyone wanting the recipe, just "pm" me, I'm not selfish.

Anyhoot, I don't think you'll go wrong with a Weber Grill. IMHO I think a Weber Grill is like a Sea Ray boat,

The very best:thumbsup:.

Glad to hear all he Weber support. I thought they were a bit over hyped and you were paying for a name but I guess not! I'll look closely. Thanks.
