And possibly power steering fluid in gear lube reservoir! I had a friend "help" me out by topping off some fluids, and I'm worried that I now have the wrong fluids in places. Specifically, I think there is gear lube (bluish stuff) in the power trim reservoir, and I think there *might* be power steering fluid in the gear lube reservoir. I am trying to learn about all the fluids and what goes where, but it's so confusing, and when I asked the marina guys, I got even more conflicting info. So I asked for some help from someone who purports to know about these things, but now I'm second-guessing. I'm supposed to take folks out tomorrow, but I can't stop obsessively worrying that something is going to go horribly wrong!!

Help, please!! (And many thanks in advance.)

you mean power trim reservoir that lifts the outdrive ? Not the trim tabs reservoir?

Correct - I know for sure that I have the right fluid in the trim tabs reservoir, but I think I have gear lube (Quicksilver) in the power trim reservoir - it's starboard at the rear-most part of the engine room (although, it's less of a "room" and more of a hideaway, I guess!), near where my battery charging stuff is. Trim tab reservoir is on the other side.

I think I may also have power steering fluid where the gear lube *should have* been. Basically, it's a mess, and I'm freaking out that it's going to cause permanent damage to the boat. Or worse - be a danger.

Have you run the boat since this has happened? How much of the wrong fluid do you think he added? If you have not run the boat I think you should be able to disconnect the drive fluid reservoir, dump it, clean it out, and then refill it. The oil in the drive reservoir gets used very slowly and if you have not operated the boat you won't have any of the wrong fluid in the lower drive unit.

You should really get a both fluids changed as soon as possible to be sure.
