It has been my observation that over all the years I have been reading Club Sea Ray postings, most generator issues/problems are Kohler. I'm wondering if people agree with this VERY informal observation or not? Now, before everyone starts posting their individual stories about other generator brands, I'm simply asking if CSR regulars agree that most postings are Kohler related???

How many Kohlers are out there compared to other brands? Install base could definitely influence frequency/qty of posts.

I've only had Westerbeke and Onan generators but I can assuredly say that the Kohler generators are too complicated for what they do and have too narrow of an operational tolerance band.
With that said though there is a parallel to failures and care/maintenance. Many of the posts on generator issues are accompanied with photos of poorly maintained equipment - rodeless anchors. So I think this thread is inconsiderate to those that maintain and take care of their equipment.

At my yacht club the majority of generator problems are with Kohlers. With all makes the most problems are with newer boats that have computer controlled integrated generators that tie into the carbon manoxide detectors. The older simpler generators seem to have very few problems.
