your boat and your money but I am curious why you are not willing to look into bigger trim tabs and different pitch props as a much lower cost option (and less time and effort) to achieve the same (or perhaps greater) performance enhancements....

you can protect the engine from possible over revving with lower pitch props by simply paying attention to the tachometer.....the engine ECM may have over revving protection (rev limiter) already programmed into it.....

I had similar issues on my 270. I found that the prop was not the original spec. Got the right prop, problem solved.

Cliff is correct. I have a "special" set of props for when I load heavy for a trip to the Bahamas. With those props on and a light load, I run out of RPM before I run out of throttle. I am just very careful to not over rev the engine, by watching the tach closely.
