I have a couple of pictures for you guys to look at and see what you think. Is this a problem I should have looked at like NOW!!!! :smt100

Does the starboard engine mount bolt look like it's WAY to far out to you????? Notice the rust at the bottom of the inner transom plate. Looks like a leaker to me - U-Joint bellows through the Gimbal Bearing?

For sure you have a problem and I suggest to get it evaluated. I just had my gimbal housing replaced along with the gimbal pin and steering lever. A costly repair bill as the engine had to come out. The lower bolts were so corroded that they fused to the housing and compromised its integrity.

Here are some images..

Good luck,

Alex

Thanks for the info and pics Alex. I called Marine Max today and they are getting someone to look at it tomorrow. Must be serious. :smt089

Glad I bought the extended full coverage warranty for this boat.

It looks like the nut may not be stainless steel. The bolt itself looks OK. I'll be interested to hear what the dealer says. Ideally you want it replaced because the longer that nut is on there the more corroded it will become and the more difficult it will be to remove.

I will definitely tell you what MMax says. Hopefully it's just a non-SS nut. That would be wonderful!

Question for me is why is it rusting or corroding? Just humidity? Water leak somewhere? Gimbal Housing seals leaking?

Glad I took a full set of pics of the engine and ER. :wow:

Update: Marine Max was no help at all on this one. I've got Highport Marina's Service Manager looking into the problem tomorrow.

I'll update you guys as I find out more information.

Still waiting on Extended Warranty approval - this boat service is a SLLLOOOOWWWW process. :smt013 :smt021

Now we're getting somewhere:

The outdrive upper unit has been pulled and tech / pics show it looks fine: Bellows are solid - no leaks, gimbal bearing appears to be fine, u-joint is clean and well lubricated. I'm getting the gimbal bearing and bellows all replaced as they would have to be done in a couple of years anyway. Peace of mind.

Next is the nut and washer replacement... TBC

Turned out to be nothing more than a corroded S.S. nut. Tech put a new one on and that's that!

This is a common problem in general with ss. I use allot of ss in the waste-water industry and with the high percentage of hydrogen sulfide to speed up the problem. We have learned that the nuts and bolts may not be from the exact same run of ss and minor impurities in the steel is what causes different rates of electrolosis. We have gone to high dollar suppliers for all of our ss parts. SS can rust and will under the correct conditions.

Remember this... Boeshield T9

Spray everything and wipe up the excess. It works. I have been using T9 since Just Ducky was new and there's no rust on the engine or transmissions.

Best regards,
Frank

I know of this stuff - use it to stop corrosion of my table saw table and jointer
