Good RV Forums?

I read a comment posted on IRV2 today that mentioned DEF. Does anyone know when that was started in motorhomes? Being the cheapskate that I am :)rolleyes:) that's one expense I'd like to avoid if possible.

2008 from what I’ve seen as well but I have even seen some 2009 and possibly even a 2010 with no DEF depending on the year the engine was made.

Thanks for those replies. My "year search" on RV Trader goes back to 2005. I don't recall seeing any of the Fleetwood Revolution models but will start to look for them.

I believe that Pierpressure1 is correct on the year of DEF requirement. But if you're looking at 2007's, check before you buy as to their need or no need for def.

Between you and me there are a lot of work arounds with respect to DEF.... just go to pickup truck diesel forums..... but in the end it’s not a major expense more of a hastle

Cincy, apparently you don't know that I proudly hold the title of Resident CSR Cheapskate!

I don't buy depreciating assets new. I worked in the RV sales industry long enough to know how much new 'anything' depreciates in the first 5 years. After that 5 year period they still depreciate but the depreciation curve has diminished.

Toys (boats, cars and trucks, RV's, etc.) lose about half their value in the first 5-7 years. I'll gladly let someone else take that depreciation hit and fix the things that are often broken or inop with new RV's.

Then, like a shining knight on his white steed, I step in and take away the motorhome his wife is getting tired of spending money on, nice guy that I am!

And yes, my search for the perfect Class A is aimed toward a diesel pusher. I'd prefer the engine be a CAT, but I'd look at Cummins also.

While it is pricy, I'd suggest you check into Monaco's. I've an '06 Signature 45' that is like a New York apartment inside!! Before the NY debacle of late. Mine has a 600HP Cummins and I pull a 6,200' pickup as my toad. I race cars up very steep hills!!!! Just because it pisses them off.

What we've found lately is that the resale value is actually inching up. So investing in them (NOT really an investment) is worth the money if you plan on keep them for a while.

But the quality of them is soooooooooo far superior to most of the coaches build then or today. FROM MY EXPERIENCE AND IN MY OPINION, the only ones better are the Prevost, Newel and some of the top end For-Travel rigs.

AS with buying ANY boat, invest in a local knowledgeable tech to do a thorough check on ALL systems. These will become VERY pricey if you buy the wrong one - like one Rode Hard and Put Away Wet!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me know if I can offer any additional info.

Just For Fun, thanks for the info on the Monaco's. I'm familiar with them as well as the other brands you mentioned.

I'm not so much looking for a specific brand as I am looking for one that mama likes and that has a floor plan we both like. I'm looking in the 33'-37' range because we will be using it to tow and launch a boat. Anything longer than that would be a bear to launch with.

Bigger is always better.... buy your second motor home first :)

Blue, I think I have heard a similar suggestion come out of my mouth concerning boats.

If I had my druthers I'd probably to for a 39'-40' but I want to avoid being excluded from camprgrounds. I think I could coerce my way in if I had a 37' but I doubt that would happen if I was driving a 40'er.

BTW, when I got my CDL to drive busses for our school district I had to take the driving test in a 40' bus. That test included driving on the streets and also maneuvering (backing straight, backing in a lane change and backing around a 90* turn) in a parking lot that was marked with cones. Driving a 40' vehicle doesn't bother me a bit.

Check out the Fleetwood Discovery in 06-08.

Good middle of the road Class A, reasonably priced, good forum online (paid subscription only), etc. The only thing I don't like about mine is the rear radiator. Side radiators are easier to work on, but mine doesn't have emissions equipment, so it's a trade off.

Keep in mind, all RV parts are hard to come by that are specific to each model, regardless of age (even new or 1-3 years old) . You think boats are tough? RVs are harder. Smack something up in an accident and you have a 50/50 chance of getting the part. You end up either rebuilding the parts or going used. There's a select few used parts dealers who charge an arm and a leg for parts because they own the market. Bumper covers try 4-5k!! Plus 1k to shipping.

Also the gentleman above who said DPs get 12-14 mpg is way off base. You'll get 6-8 mpg on average. Most rigs start around 32k lbs.
