We have never stayed at Harbor Beach up near the tip of the thumb. We are thinking of staying there for a couple of days during the week next month and stretching out our annual lexington trip. Any of you stayed there? How is it? Enough to do within walking distance of the marina?

We've have escaped storms there several times. Almost twisted the dock out 4 years ago during a thunder storm. I read that the marina is slowly being rebuilt as funds become available. Covid slowed the project as well. It's about half done with the longest fingers yet to be rebuilt. We enjoyed going to town but it's a hike. Paid a marina employee to drive us. Several good places to eat, not sure how the restaurants are doing now.

Thank You. Trying to find some place to go
north of Lexington. I know there is Sanilac, but they seem full during the week which I think is odd. Port Austin too, but thats a little farther of a hike. Any nice places up the huron thumb I may be missing?

Caseville sounds like a fun stop during the week. You would have no problem getting in there with your vessel. We tried several years ago but it was near a holiday and they were full. Across Saginaw Bay is East Tawas. The marina has been completely rebuilt with a simple walk to town. We really enjoyed our time there, a nice 2 or 3 night stop.

Just spent last Friday and Saturday at Harbor Beach. The new docks are really nice, but it it a bit of a hike to get to town or the beach. However, the state harbor offers a shuttle service.
We stopped on our way back from Mackinaw Island and timed it so we were there for their Marine Festival. They had some bands and the beach was active. We used our dinghies to shuttle our group from the docks to the beach.

We stayed at both Harbor Beach and Port Austin last week. Harbor Beach is extremely shallow. We ducked into Port Austin on our way north to escape 4-5 foot seas. We ended up staying a couple of days. Nice little town. Once again watch your charts on the way in. Make sure to swing wide around the lighthouse. There is a 1’ shoal
