My Sea Ray has a Raymarine RAY240 VHF radio. I like to monitor Channels 16 and 13 while underway, but I find that with all the engine and wind noise it's difficult to understand what comes over the speaker. I also have a handheld West Marine VHF460, which I believe is a re-branded Uniden MHS235. I've been thinking about getting a headset or some sort of earpiece to plug into the handheld. The owner's manual for the handheld makes no mention of what size the accessory jack is (2.5mm?), and the Uniden website isn't much help either. Before I call Uniden customer service, has anybody tried pairing a headset or earpiece to a handheld VHF? I mostly need to listen to it, so I don't need a mic and PTT button, but those would be nice to have as well. I also like the idea of carrying the handheld on my person so it's with me in an emergency, in case I ended up in the water inadvertently or had to abandon ship due to fire, etc. Anybody have a best practice to share regarding this?
