Hi, I have a 2000 Sea Ray 290 Sundancer with twin 5.0L EFI motors and Bravo 2 drives. I need to replace the exhaust manifolds and risers. I have 2 spacers between them. The standard 3" which is easy to find and a 1 or maybe 1 1/4" spacer. I connot find any information on the smaller spacer. Could anyone help me with this?

never saw a two spacer setup on that motor unless someone was trying to do a wet joint to dry joint conversion. can you include a photo of the current setup?

Ebasic power has a 1-1/4" riser spacer listed for a wet joint setup. MER8M0063742, $139.95.

I realize this is an old thread but, were you able to locate the smaller spacer? I have a 2001 290 with the same setup. 5.0L EFI I’ve researched everywhere for that spacer without success. Not sure what my options are. Someone suggested I see if I have room under the hatch for a 6” spacer. Not sure how that will work height wise hooking up to the exhaust pipe.

FYI. If you’re replacing and need or want risers I have 2 pair that were installed and used on my boat for less than 2 seasons and 130 or so hours. Paid $225+ per pair and they’re in great shape. Part #865953-C DSM PM if interested.

I just ran into this problem. I have a 2000 290 Sundancer and am in the middle of manifolds and risers. I had the smaller spacer made at a machine shop. Give me a call if you need some help. 978- 836-8084. Bill

Thank you for your reply. I was extremely lucky after hitting many area marinas. One actually had all 4 small spacers I needed. Of course they were very expensive! I think they knew they are obsolete.

Thanks again.

You are lucky. I spent 8 hours calling every SeaRay and Mercruiser dealer with no luck. I had them made out of stainless for $300 a piece, double the price.

WOW! I thought $150 each was bad.
I did contact Merc and spoke to a tech. He told me everything he has on my boat and motors indicates I only needed the 3” spacer. He had nothing showing that the 2001 290 needed extra spacer. But, I didn’t want to take a chance and go with just the 3”. So when she was hauled for the winter, she got all new risers, manifolds and spacers. I’m good for hopefully 5 yrs.

I have friend who worked as a mechanic at a SR dealer in the early 2000's and said he knew about the issue. SeaRay added the 1 1/2 inch riser due to ingestion issues. I was told the same thing, it came from the factory with a 3 inch only.

Then some company needs to make the smaller spacer. I’m sure there’s plenty of 290’s out there needing riser/manifolds.

I found the part it is listed and still available from mercury marine the part number is 17833A-1 My last post has the parts diagram took me hours to find but they worked perfectly.

The short spacers seemed to appear with the addition of b3 outdrives and Generator’s. They sit considerably lower in the water than b1 boats. They are important.

I was fortunate to find 4 sitting on a shelve in a local marina over the winter. But today checking the number you list 17833A-1, every website I see says it’s unavailable. I’m just looking to possibly get another set for the future.

I feel bad for the salt water guys needing to replace these parts all the time. I believe my manifolds risers and elbows are original to my 89 and no signs of needing replacement.
