I need some help before I go and spend $1,000+ on parts. I’m trying to isolate an intermittent fuel problem. Boat is a 2010 SLX with and 8.1L with 150hrs on engine. I’m fairly new to boat ownership. This is my 2nd one in last 5 years. I’m pretty mechanically inclined.
The boat just quit running 3 times this weekend. All at idle speed last coming out of no wake zones. No alarms, no codes when it dies. It sputters like there’s no gas. Has 60 gallons in tank though. The boat isn’t registering anything wrong.
The first time it started right back up. The second time it would not start and I had to get towed back by the friendly lake police. Third time was after the tow, I randomly wanted to see if it would start while we attempted to load it on a trailer. It started and ran for 5 mins before dying again.
Batteries are fine, starter is fine. Zero fuel pressure when it dies. I checked the shrader value and there is zero fuel pressure at the valve or O-ring gauge.
Boat is new to me. Bought it in May. I’m going to buy a new fuel filter regardless. Before I buy a new low and high fuel pressure pump I wanted to see if anyone could help me diagnose the issues. I think there’s a pump in the fuel tank too if I’m not mistaken.
I had a Mercedes do this once. Died while running with no codes. Ended up pulling a code after dying for the 3rd time and the crank position sensor needed to be replaced. Could this be the same thing?
Thanks in advance for any help you all may give
