Hi guys,im a female british owner of a SeaRay 230 Sunsport, only owned her a few months, and the engine as done 65 hours. Whilst out in her today, the engine started beeping, as if it was an alarm, and it would cut out, when i checked the temperature guage its was at its highest 250. So we called for help, and was towed back to a marina. Waiting now for a mechanic to check it, i dont know a thing about boats, so hopefully tomorrow will have an idea whats wrong. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be, it was services at 40 hours ago. Thanks guys

So first thing, there is a rubber water pump impeller in the stern drive this is what moves the water thru the engine.
The impeller should be serviced every few years at least. More if you operate in shallow sandy areas.
You should never start the engine out of the water, the rubber needs water to lubricate and cool it.

It is the most likely reason for over heating

Mine overheated Saturday. Mechanic coming Friday morning. Will let you know what it is. Normally I would say impeller, but i just replaced it in august. Dont even have 30 hours on it so i very curious what he finds. Already ruled out main circulation pump & Bravoitis. So we’ll see. New mannies and risers and elbows in March.

Hopefully you didn't cook the engine. These engines should not get much above 160F.
