I didnt want to hijack @dtfeld post about his new Verizon internet speed, but it made me wonder. How many of you have access to true high speed internet at your marina?

I have Comcast internet to my slip, and I figured that was a typical option in marinas. I'm on a 400 mbps plan because I video conference all day from the boat, but could be on a gigabit plan if I wanted.

Do your marinas offer similar service (whether you use it or not), or is this fairly uncommon?

We really need a "Connected Boat" thread.

Ah HAHAHAHAHA….no.

You are quite fortunate. I don’t even have a marina hot spot. That’s why I put in my own Peplink router. To be fair there’s only 10 slips at my marina.

Which Peplink router did you get and can you detail the install, please? We have wifi at my marina but "inside" the boat it can get spotty so looking for a stable platform inside the boat!
thanks

I got a Peplink MAX BR1 Mk2 router. Right now it’s just sitting in my galley and plugged into an outlet, so nothing fancy. I have plans to do a more permanent install including a Poynting MIMO antenna sitting in my garage.

I’m using a T-mobile $50 for 100gb/month plan. It’s no longer available but I have it as long as I don’t change it.

The only disappointment is that the Peplink router will not let you connect to a captive portal WiFi. So if go have something like Optimum WiFi or a marina WiFi where you need to login via a web page, the Peplink won’t pass it through.

Brad, the guys I got my Peplink and ancillaries from (MobileMustHave) covered this in the setup brief they gave. I tried it at a transient marina and it worked for me. Here's the procedure from their site:

Hope it helps. Let me know if you get stuck, there was one further tip I have buried in my notes about an Apple page that can unstick the process that I can try to dig up. I have a subscription with MMH so can also ask them.

Like I posted earlier, I got my Peplink from MobileMustHave (mobilemusthave.com). I have the Peplink Max Transit Cat 18 and an external MobileMark cellular/wifi/GPS antenna. MMH sells everything you need and will configure the equipment for you, either before shipping or remotely. They also provide an online setup seminar. They have a subscription for $75 or so but the discount that comes with it will pay for the subscription as soon as you buy anything substantial. They also will combine their discount with the one from rvmobileinternet.com, which is another great resource, more for researching than for purchase.

Good to know, thanks. I got mine from them too. I’ll check your link.
