I need to replace my holding tank vent filter and didn't think to check the size while I was down there this weekend. I have a searay 420AC. Would it be the 5/8" size?? Also any recommendation for an online purchase site would be appreciated. Thanks

I rebuild mine.

The first time takes about 30 minutes and a run to Lowe's.

Peel the label off and saw the filter in half dumping out the activated carbon. Then cut out another 1.5" piece or so. and get some PVC fittings to allow you to screw it back together. (I can look up the exact sizes next time I'm on the boat. PM me if you like.) Then using PVC cement glue these pieces in the middle.

Then fill both ends with aquarium filter carbon ($4 in the pet supply area at Wal Mart - takes 2/3 of a bottle to redo a filter) and screw it together. Check the foam pieces at the ends of the cartridge to make sure they are still intact - they keep the carbon from coming out the hose ends. If not, get some felt and cut a piece for each end.

Voila. Now instead of spending $75-100 each time you need a new filter, it costs you $3 and can be done in 5 minutes total.

The Sea Land filter comes in two sizes, you need the larger of the two with hose bib like fittings on each end.

This is great. I was wondering if I should pop for a new filter. Rebuilding for a few bucks is the way to go.

Yes elec doc.....or at the pet store buy some of the fish tank filter and stuff it in the end.(they sell the charcoal as well)
