Hey guys,
I just ordered all new hoses for my 3126 Cats, fresh and raw, I also ordered the o-rings for taking a peek into the heat exchangers. This was started when my mechanic last season indicated wouldn't be a bad idea to take a look at the exchangers. My local CAT guy jumped on the idea as well, the boat being a 1998 and the hoses looking tired and dry.

The CAT guy also indicated I should take the heat exchangers to a radiator shop for deep cleaning and pressure testing.

Reason for my post, anybody tackle this project thus far, any watch outs, I know the o rings can be tricky from previous posts.

Thanks,
Pat

I did the same thing a couple seasons ago and took the exchangers to the local radiator shop w/ new o rings, zincs.and Cat paint to match). They did a great job.
I also replaced all the hoses as they looked dried and cracked( it was just the paint on the hoses and they were all in great condition).
Good luck with your project and you might need an extra set of hands to help hold the exchanger when replacing.

Tom,
Thanks for the note back, I just assumed that the hoses wouldn't bad as they looked, however, just don't want to loose a hose underway and create other much more expesive repairs. My Cat guys points out with loss of coolant, even with shut down after the alarm that the engine will continue see a increase in temperature with no effective way of transferring heat This he points out is where significant damage can occur.

I also figured after 14 years their days are numbered.

Thanks,
Pat
