HELLO ALL, NEWBIE HERE. I JUST bought a used 1997 searay with the 3.0lx mercruiser and alpha one gen II. no manuals, so how do choke this engine? you cant push in the key like all the other boats i have had. p.s. this is my first inboard.

thanks in advanced

It should have an automatic choke, either electric or bi-metallic spring. No need to do anything but maybe pump the throttle once or twice for cold starts.

+1 for Quint's advice. Just pump it once or twice and it should kick right over. The 3.0l is a great little engine. See you on on the river!

Thanks alot all........

Welcome aboard

I always thought that one full pump and on the way back to neutral you were supposed to stop at the click, or first click when the throttle is clicked at the lowest speed out of neutral...I could be wrong. Of course this would be for a mechanical choke

That depends on the air temperature and how long ago it was last started. One pump is what my 3.0 usually took though.

With my 3.0 carbureted engine, I start similiarly:

Push in throttle-only button and go to full throttle.
Back to neutral
Push in throttle-only button and go 1/4 throttle.
Start boat and move throttle towards neutral as it warms up and RPM's climb, keeping around 1500 until ready to idle.

Enjoy!
