I had to remove my starboard transmission on my 2000 420AC. Transmission also has the rear motor mounts so engine needs to be lifted. Only way to lift was A frame supported from the cabin deck. Other option was to fabricate mounts from engine to stringer with jack bolts.

Supported the deck with a 2x4 on the port side and blocked from the top of the engine to the deck on the starboard side. The studs on the motor mounts stick up 2" past the nuts so I cut them down so the engine didn't needed to be jacked as high. Removed the turbo and exhaust elbow and associated hose. Jacked up the engine (two points) using lifting lug and transmission bolt (longer bolt bolting up hook on chain fall). Put in cribbing under bell housing to support rear of engine. Lift trans out with chainfall and place on 2 2x6" boards to move it to the closed engine hatch. Two of us lifting it up the stairs to the aft deck and down the stairs.

Rebuild took 2 days and trans was back in the boat on Friday. New clutch plates, pump ok but pressure was a little low. Factory dealer rebuilt my Twin Disc transmission.

All back together and struggling with turbo to exhaust manifold gasket....leaking antifreeze.

I always wonder how people work on these types of boats, thanks for sharing, good luck with the AF leak

Coat both sides of a new gasket with red high temp rtv per Tony's instructions on sbmar.com. Also I recommend replacing the mounting studs and nuts. I had to do all of that when I had both my turbos rebuilt. Also make sure "turbo side" of gasket is indeed on the turbo side.

NICE WORK!! Is this strait or vdrive? Did you have to slide the shift out at all? In water or out?

Straight drive. Slide the drive shaft back 2.5" to allow clearance for trans to pull back. Used a 4" C clamp to pull it back in to allow bolt up and eng alignment. Job was done in the water. Also had to block the shaft up to its "normal location" to not stress the seal (stops leaking too).

Good work! If you ever get the time, update your Avatar pic.
