Huge fire at Toledo beach Marina right now

Based on my very limited knowledge of fire investigation it is unusual to start clean up until an investigation is done first. Fire department did a very good job of containment. Propane for BBQs would have made fighting the fire difficult due to the tanks exploding or perhaps the marina make people remove them while their boat is in storage.
Question
If a battery is boiled dry while charging does it become a fire hazard?

Back in this thread someone asked about a sprinkler system, while it would be possible to put a dry system in as Woody said, it would be impracticable and expensive. The materials that burned would require a foam or wet water system (wet water is just a soapy mix) Nothing would have put out this type of fire with all the fuels that were burning and as hot as it was, it turns into a surround and drown. The department did a great job of protecting the surrounding boats and structures.

As for the equipment that looks to be cleaning up as the investigation gets going, believe me the investigators most likely have a good idea of the seat of the fire. Plus you would need to get to the hotspots. You want that equipment on hand to remove debris to get to those spots.

Im very sorry for those owners, I hate to see any boat burn or sink.

It makes me think of something I've heard before - fire boats aren't generally trying to put out fires on boats, they are trying to sink the boats. Not sure if that's entirely accurate but since I've heard it more than once on the internet it must have a 15% chance of being true :)

It's true, as someone who had a house fire back in 2014, the fire dept caused most the damage. object is to keep the fire from spreading to other houses, not concerned about the one on fire. they busted out EVERY window in the house, even the ones not near the fire. when i asked them why, they said its so when i filed the insurance claim, all the windows in the house would match. NO BS, they said that. and they were right. got all new windows., actually got a whole new house but whatever.

A sprinkler system saved the building and the boats at North Shore Marina a few years back. Also, an alert member of the staff called 911 and the fire department had a quick response. I believe just 3 -5 boats were a total loss. Dealing with the insurance companies was a nightmare.

What I was referring to is a 'dry pipe' system. The system is under air pressure until a fire sets of a sprinkler head. The loss of air pressure allows the system to charge with water at that point. These 'dry pipe' systems are used up here in the cold country but they require close monitoring.

Yes sir I knew what you were saying. They use them here for outside spaces. While wet systems are the norm here I’m sure up your way dry systems are the norm. With that fuel load and the many types of fuel, plus the size of the building I’m guessing that if the fire started on the bottom of the rack no system would have worked.
