While Cruising this weekend my wife inadvertently hit the port transmission shifter out of gear. Cruising RPM was 3300. I immediately throttled down and put both transmissions in neutral . Smelled hot. Let the engines idle for a few minutes and then put both in gear. Ran good the rest of the day. Next day out cruising and the port transmission slipped and engine revved. Throttled back and smelled hot again. let engines idle then put in gear ran fine. When reached the dock port transmission would not come out of forward. When put in reverse engine stalled. In neutral engine starts in forward.

What is your conclusion?

Thanks

Barry

What is the oil level and condition in the drive? If it smelled hot and is the oil smells burned it
was run way too hot . You should have temp alarm switches on the transmissions, were they checked for correct operation?

I wonder if the move to neutral was a coincidence, esp since you didn't jam it back into gear. Say only nice things to your wife until you know more - she may hold zero blame here!

btw, it's "Hurth" (and later ZF)
