I know..3116/3126 Oil again

I just received a call from Toromont Marine Caterpillar regarding alternative oils. Again they said the CAT SAEO is the only recommended oil however, there are alternatives. They want $32.89 Imp Gal or $7.23 per liter.
If you go to this link (API), it provides the lates standards for engine oils, Gas and Diesel: http://www.api.org/certifications/engineoil/categories/upload/MOTOR_OIL_GUIDE_2010_120210.pdf

You will see that most of the older categores are now obsolete with only a couple new standards. Again, you will see that the CI-4 monograde category may be used in place of CF-4 monograde.

One additional source in Canada is PetroCan Duron that meet CI-4 and CF-4 in a monograde 30 weight.

I was trying to find the brand name used in the US but so far, no luck. I'm sure it's there.

Hi Deep'. What oil did you settle on and where did you get it from? I am in Ottawa as well with my boat in Rockport and will be changing mine shortly.

Its been awhile since I have been on here but I buy PetroCan Duron SAE 40. I get the Cat SOS kit every year. This year for some reason, most of the oil companies changed their process which spiked the Magnesium count. I called Toromont Cat and they told me the high readings are across the board on almost all diesel oils. Otherwise my numbers haven't changed in the 8 years we have owned this boat.

I just used valvoline sae 30 diesel this fall. Easy to get and $4.33 a litre
