I have the Delco HEI ingnition on my 5.7LX EFI

I will be replacing some ignition components this week, Cap, Rotor, and plug wires for sure, and likely the coil or ignition module (depending on which one tests bad, or maybe both for good measure.)

While looking for the parts I came across a kit from Mallory (9-26001) that includes a new distributor, and claims to be an upgrade.

Does anyone have any experience with the Mallory Marine ignition components? Is this really an upgrade or is it generic aftermarket parts?

I'm usually religious about using only OEM parts, but if Mallory has indeed made improvements, I would be willing to make an exception for the ignition components.

I put the Marine MSD and Baster coil on my 5.7
Edelbroc makes a nice marine carb also.

I see your EFI.
So nevermind :smt021

Stay with what you have. There is no upgrade since the MEFI module controls ignition timing once the engine is running. GM engineered the distributor and MEFI to work together.

I am installing an MSD Blaster II marine coil just to be sure I am getting as large a spark in the cylinder as possible each time the plug fires. I'm not looking to "hot rod" the motor, just want to burn all the fuel that is there each compression stroke. My motor does not have a ballast/resistor on the stock ignition so I must install one per MSD instructions. Otherwise the ignition will be new rotor, distributor cap, new wires, and plugs.
Just my 2 cents worth. JD
