You all have always be very helpful, in the market for for a new suv. Our Murano has been stellar & has 180K miles on it, time for a change. Do not like the new Asian designs and the Europeans are to expensive. After all the research, the list is down to either Dodge Durango or Ford Explorer with the Durango starting to win out. Looking for any opinions you may have. Thanks

Durango! You can't get a better value. Mercedes chassis. BMW transmission. Luxurious fittings. The six has plenty of power with the 8 speed trans. The hemi is a beast. Only wish it came with a diesel. Deals to be had, because it is a slow seller.

Explorer. Many Police Departments are adopting the Explorer as their patrol vehicles. That implies to the durability and availability of parts for a long time to come. I've never been impressed with Dodge durability.

Not a fan of the dodge suspension or brakes, they tend to wear prematurely and have for years. The explorer has come a long way also,as far as not being so ugly.I like the tahoe and suburbans but i am a gm tech.

Ford Explorer for sure , daughter has a Durango and its a POS, explorers have much better fitment ,but they are expensive . Police use the twin turbo ecoboost engine , it's reliable and strong . Get a dodge and you get a free membership to the Gym inside their dealership. I've had Fords all my life and I've seen Dodge owners damn near shoot themselves over and over again , trust me there's a reason why Fiat wants sell Chrysler .

Funny. In our fleet Fords have been consistent POS and will not own any more. The Dodge and GM products have been about equal with Dodge getting the edge.

A dodge is like a hooker. It looks good and you think you might want it but you know you shouldn't and if you do you will most likely have something you don't want after you get home.

I have also been looking at the Explorer sport. 365hp AWD and tow 5000 lbs.

2016 Explorer is sharp. Drive both. Longevity my vote goes to Explorer, I really like it's looks as well. I've had a Durango, Ram 2500 and now drive an F-150. 3.5 EcoBoost makes it hard to believe I'm in a 5000lb pickup. Supposed to be faster in the lighter Explorer...

Tony,

We have a 2015 GMC Acadia Denali. We lease it but got it from a dealer via the Costco Buying Program.

Plush, plenty of power and came with the tow package standard.

You may want to look at it.

I lease two vehicles for my wife and I every three years.
Last November we leased two Chevys. A traverse, and and Equinox. The last leases were 2012 Hondas. A Pilot and CRV.
We liked the Hondas a lot, but didn't want to get them again because the 2015's looked exactly like the 2012's we were turning in.
We actually like the Chevys even more than we liked the Hondas.

My CAD$0.02:

I have owned 2 explorers (not the current version) a Jeep Grand Cherokee, a BMW X5, an Acura MDX and an RDX. Explorers were good but those years they were trucks. The 2004 was pretty good. The grand Cherokee believe it or not was pretty much problem free. The BMW was a nightmare. Yeah the first 3 years it was all under warranty, but my god what a POS. Drove nice though. The Acuras have been flawless.

Lessing SUV-wise, we went from an Explorer, to a Saturn Outlook (gave back on lemon law due to a bum motor) to Acura MDX's twice in a row and then to the GMC Acadia Denali.

My wife loved the Acuras, but the they were simply too small for 4 of us when we added friends and coolers to the mix when we went to the boat. Plus, my daughters were getting taller...

My plan is to keep the Denali for myself when the lease is up and then get another truckette or AWD car for my wife since she prefers something closer in size to the MDX -- plus that damn thing was like a rocket due to low weight and a beefy engine for its size...

Gents, thanks for all the advice. Going out the next two weekends doing test drives, maybe do rentals. Since we are driving from Pittsburgh to SC once a month, also concerned about gas mileage. I also had larger Explorer & Blazers, smaller ones also in the past. Will let you all know how this ends.

We looked at Murano about 3 years ago, they are a very nice car. Looked at the Edge, too rough riding for us.
Have a look at the Lexus RX350. We have one, love it. AWD, 3.5-V6, gobs of torque, reasonable gas mileage, plush interior.
We'll be buying another.
