This is my first year with a cuddy cabin boat, and I'm going to be winterizing it myself and storing it in an indoor cold storage place. I plan on putting a "no pest strip" in the cockpit, and one in the cabin, and closing the cabin doors. The cockpit cover will be put on the boat. Do I need to put a damp rid container in both the cabin and cockpit?

How do you all prep your cruisers for indoor cold storage over the winter months?

With our cuddy, I put a container of damp rid in the cockpit and one in the cabin just as a precautionary measure. Then I stuff bounce dryer sheets under all the cushions, and every knook and cranny I can find. It always smells fresh in the spring when it comes out of storage.

I have always used two large rubbermaid tubs filled with hamster shavings (cedar shavings) available at any pet store. Good moisture control and the cabin smells fantastic in the spring.

I will second the dryer sheets. They seem to keep the critters away besides smelling great in the spring. I always used them in my camper also.

I used the dryer sheets, but they seemed to leave a residue behind, where the no pest strip is self contained. It is hard to beat the nice smell the dryer sheets leave behind.

Wow...The mice in our area would love that! All the less work for the crew.

I have not tried this but I have heard a bucket full of charcoal works just as well but probably doesn't smell as good.
