Does anyone know what model Clarion was installed in 1996? I just purchased this boat and found the 6cd changer, remote control and the amp is all there for the Clarion system. The previous owner put a JVC stereo in and i am looking to put the Clarion back in so I can hook up all the accesories and have them operational again. I have seen a lot of Clarion radios for sale but do not now which ones are compatible to the rest of the equipment installed in 1996. Thanks for any advise.

In 1996 most of the Clarion equiptment used by Searay used whats called C-net connections between the stereo components. So any clarion with that set up should work. You might call someone like Crutchfields.com, a large on line dealer. Where are you in NC? We also have a 50, and are in Wilmington NC

I would try calling Clarion tech support. My boat is an '03 and it, too, came with the Clarion 6CD, etc. When I changed my head unit from an XMD1 to the newer CMD4, the CD changer was no longer compatible. Like the PO of your boat, I didn't really care b/c I don't really load 6 CD's and listen anymore, I use the AUX input for an Ipod. Clarion support may have more information regarding if/how to connect a 12 year old CD changer to a new head unit.

I also change the radio out of my boat a couple years ago, I had a Clarion w/ cassette and wanted a CD player. I had the same problem with the c-net connection on the changer.

From what I found is that there is a round CeNet connection and a square CeNet connection. I think you need to know which one you have and go from there,(contact Clarion first on which head unit will work). You'll probably have to find an old style head unit if you want to keep the existing changer.

I think the plug for the wired remote has always stayed the same.

I'm not sure if this was a marketing gimick or what?? Forcing you to put in ALL new equipment in when you want to upgrade one thing.

Thanks for the info. We are in Belhaven, NC and do occasionally get to Wilmington. I delivered my previous boat 1989 44ft CV there about 5 weeks ago and stopped again with my new boat 1996 50 ft Sundancer around the first of March. It takes us about 5.5 hours in the 50 ft. from Belhaven to Wilmington. We stay in Morehead/Beaufort often also.

The older interconnect schema was called CE-Bus or C-Bus. I forget which. The current system is Ce-Net. They are not compatible. My 1999 330DA had the Ce-Bus system so when I installed the Sirius receiver, the head unit and cd-changer both were incompatible and needed to be changed.

Best regards,
Frank C.
