Insanity…save me

Tomorrow isn't guaranteed to any of us. Boats are not rational purchases, they are emotional purchases that help us all enjoy our lives a little more. If you have the means to buy the boat, and it won't cause you financial stress, buy the boat. If buying the boat will cause you financial stress, enjoy what you have.

The whole boating world is a bubble, like many other things these days, and you should plan to have a depreciation expense that is larger than if you had purchased 5 years ago. Either buy-in or don't, but don't get wound up over things you can't predict.

If the price of gas is such a factor that it will keep you from buying a boat, buy a sailboat and get on with your life.

Ok, I’m going to look at a 45’ EC from 1989. Twin CATS. I have no issues with my 88 300we, I love the boat, I just want more cabin space. BUT

WHY am I doing this now!? Fuel, HIGH prices, poorly kept boats… I must be insane (damn 2’ fever)

1st SR '89 300WE w/454's @ the fuel dock and you can see what I went to...

Yo, the asking price is a bit high but the current market is high. Fuel will be higher Diesel is always higher, I’ve never understood that but it is. Slip will be…you name it and it will be higher. Big thing to me has been the loss of my neighbors and the covered slip. That’s all good, but I still must be insane.

Can you tell me what to look for and not want to see? Photos are limited so far. Just from the sellers photos

'89 and I'm a '98 so there's not a lot of comparison... But there's a bunch of folks on here that know more than I do. I believe in '89 you will not find any balsa coring (great thing) less to worry about. Engines (all 3) and water intrusion, I think would be at the top of my list.

When I got serious about the Lina Lina, I had the broker send everything that was available, 2 previous surveys, all the receipts for maintenance & upgrades, and a ton new of new pictures the broker took for me. I was in Seattle and the boat was in Huntington Beach, CA.

Fuel burn might come out even with gas vs diesel.

Make sure the rot caused by the open cell floatation foam has been repaired under galley floor, and the foam has been replaced with a suitable non water absorbing material. This was a nice boat in its day. Requires deep pocket to bring back to its former glory if it has not been properly maintained.
