Twin 4.3L MPI w/Alpha one Drives
Hey everyone, this is my first post to club sea ray. I just recently purchased a 280 sundancer 2006 w/ twin 4.3L MPI w/ Alpha one Drives, raw water cooled lake boat. I'm currently in the process of transitioning the sundancer into an ocean boat (ie. Bottom paint, fresh water cooled system). The boat currently has a vaccu-flush system going into a grey water tank that I'm able to pump out at a Sani-station on the lake. I want to install a system with through-hull discharge as I will be mooring the boat mainly in the ocean and won't have access to Sani-station. ( I know the rules for discharging at sea)

My main question is does anyone know of a stock macerator sea ray kit or part number that I could order that the sea ray dealership or manufacturer would have installed on a new boat? I read in the sundancer manual that a macerator with through-hull sea cock was an optional add on at the time of purchase but wasn't added.

Thanks for your help!

By the looks of mine, it's a very simple system to set up. T off the hose to the black water tank, go to a new macerator. I replaced mine. They aren't very expensive. Install an outgoing hose and lockable seacock. Finally, 12v power and a switch.

I would go that route as it seems easier and cheaper than trying to replicate the original. However, you can get the original part numbers here (pg 74):

On the 300, my macerator switch is on my main AC/DC panel but on the 280 it's in the head (I think, don't quote me on that).

My boat has an aftermarket macerator install. Very straight forward by the looks of it. For 12V they added a switch to the nearest panel. No need to bring it all the way into the cabin. It's not like you'll be pumping out every day...:)

Thanks Phil for the parts manual and page number!

I will call my dealership and see if they can order the part numbers associated with what's labeled in the manual.

As far as cutting a through-hull hole and installing the sea cock, does anyone have any personal experience doing this? Curious to know if there's anything I should watch out for like location of the hole and mounting.

Currently the only through-hull hole I have on the bottom of the boat is my OE transducer, which is dead center between the two engines right by the two bilge pumps.

Thanks again everyone

The only other thing that SR installed is a switch on the discharge thru-hull valve so the pump relay would be disabled should the valve be closed. Deadheading those positive displacement pumps will either stall and burn out the motor or rupture the bellows or invert the duck bill valves. All not good should someone inadvertently turn it on.

Mine is factory. Jabsco pump just replaced after 30 years so they work well.
Far as install the thru hull, PLEASE have it done professionally. You have ONE shot at cutting the hole in the right place. ONE shot. Drill thru and come out on a chine you are seriously screwed.

I speak from experience when I say this. Keep the manual handy, it will show you how to take off the front to clear a jam. And if you have females aboard you will have a jam. Nothing like spending an hour clearing a jam with your hands covered in shit. Good Times! I got my time down to 15 mins done it so much.

Chewy,
There is no kit at this point. Are you in a marina? Ask around slip neighbors. Look at their setups, you will learn more by that than on here. Most that i seen, the key to turn on is in the head. I believe you need a key to run it rather than a button or switch and there are rules about where you can have the seacock open or closed depending on where you are.
I keep the seacock closed and the key out of the switch in case i get an inspection.
Look into the rules where you plan to boat.

My first one discharged out the side of the head, but was rather obvious you were spewing shit everywhere. That was a factory installed. Simple install. Last few boats they ran the discharge to the bilge and out a thru hull underwater. More discreet.
If you are starting from scratch you may want to consider putting the discharge out the side of the head. Way way simpler, no need for thru hull. And trying to route a large discharge hose back to the bilge.

Thanks Pirate Lady for the replies, much appreciated.
