Hello Club Members,i have a 2004 42 Sundancer.I’m the original owner.I never change the Intake Air Heater solenoids until now.I change the two solenoids that’s next to the after coolant on the port side engine.I also change the ends to each wire going to the Solenoids which was corroded. As I change the solenoids I happened to put my hand on the Intake Air Heater and it was burning hot with the engine off.I decided to take one of the hot line off the solenoid coming from the Intake Air Heater,as i was taking the line off the solenoid it was sparkling and after a few moments the Intake Air Heater cool off.I’m sure i replaced all wires properly.
I would appreciate any opinions.Thank You

I don’t know the Cummins that well, but I just got done doing the same thing on my CAT 3126s.

I can tell you there is a lot more going on then just the solenoids. The solenoids turn the heaters on/off, but what’s controlling the solenoid?

On the CATs, there is a control box that looks at ambient air temperature, oil pressure and coolant temperature and decides if the AHs are needed and when to turn the heat off. I would expect a similar setup on the Cummins, and this might be where the issue is.

I would go check out boatdiesel.com as this is probably a well documented topic. I pay for that site and it’s worth every penny.

What is the exact model of your engines? 6 CTA? That would be very helpful. If you have a engine schematic that would help too.
