intermittent start switch

My 2000 310da. has started not starting all the time when you first hit the start button. So far I've checked all connections from the switch to the starter.When I press and hold the start switch when nothing happens shaking the shifter does not make it work. I ordered a new start switch for $3.00 and solenoid for $24.00 . Because I was by myself at the time I couldn't check it with a meter. The one thing I have noticed is the volt gauge on the dash don't show a voltage draw when it doesn't work so I'm pretty sure it's not the starter. After it does start it will work multi times like it suppose to then fail again.

I've been having the same issue with my 1997 450. Jiggling the transmission shift for that engine eventually get's it to start. I have replaced the switches and solenoid, and no luck. I must have a bad wire somewhere between point A and B ....

Shaking the shifter does not seem to help in my case.
