Hi All,
Am I nuts for even thinking about trying to fit a dingy on my 300? I'd love to get some other thoughts on this.

First off, is the platform even capable of holding the weight of a small dingy (2-3person)? Anyone know the weight rating for a 300?

My next concern is how much will a dingy with davits mess up the transom access? Will the space between the dingy and dunnage be big enough to walk though?

Would it block the view when docking?

Anyone know of some pics of a 300+dingy would be awesome!

Thanks for the advice!
Mark

I have an older (96) 300. I have the original platform, and then the extended platform with Hurley Davits. My dink is 9'6", with a 10 horse motor.
I can't add a picture, so here is a link to a couple pics.

With the current set up, I have enough room to move on the integrated platform, as the dinghy is mostly on the extended one. I have to be very careful about docking side to, as this dinghy is a touch big when I load it so the engine is "more centered". Let me know if you want any additional information. As for driving characteristics, I can't really tell it's back there.

Yes, you can fit a dinghy.
Yes, the platform will hold it nicely
Yes, you can still use your transom door
No, it will not block your view from docking

We used to carry a bag boat (zodiac) when cruising a 300 WEr. It worked out just fine. Stored the small Johnson outboard on top of the bag in the back of the cockpit and set things up when we got to the first port. We still have the same dingy and outboard but store them in the bilge now. If you store an outboard in the bilge, it needs to be 2 cylcle and you need to run the carburator dry before you put it away.

Our 300 DA has an 11 foot beam and an 8.5 or 9.5 would fit giving me room to use the transom door. I'd probably put the bow of the dinghy on the Port side near the door to allow additional room to get around by the door.

MY swim platform is not much bigger than yours and I just installed a hurley system and love it.....I would paste a picture, but I do not know how to do......If you want, e-mail me and I will send picture.

On a 300 it should be fine. As long as you don't get a davit like this contraption... Looks totally out of place, even on this 32 foot Carver

Wow thanks for the responses and pics everyone. I knew I'd find someone here who has done this. It looks pretty reasonable to do.

Wetpaint you mentioned you installed the hurley system, was it easy to do? I'll have to go download the directions.

jrirvine1, I see you have a port side slip. I sort of goofed that up this year. I picked the slip with a nice view, only to dock my, new to me, 300 to realize I was in a starboard side finger! DOH!

Wow that Carver is a piece of work! If I had to do that to my boat, I'd scrap the dingy idea. Then again it is only a carver.

Searayman,

I installed the Hurley davits on mine a month ago. Very easy to do. Measure, measure again, drill, SEALANT (5200) and install. It really took very little time, and was very easy to install.

Well, mine is not a 300 but it is 25 ft long... I installed these removable davits last month and works well. They rotate to one side when in port so I can walk out the transom without ducking under:

BTW, both davits cost less than $700 including shipping...
